Stress & Sleep

Minimising unwanted stress and maximising good quality sleep are critical to achieving optimum health.

Stress is our response to daily life. It can affect our emotions, our bodies and our behaviour. The right amount of stress can be a positive force that helps us do our best and stay alert and energetic. Too much stress, however, can make us tense, anxious, and can cause sleep problems.

In addition to difficulty sleeping, common signs of stress include low mood, tension, anxiety, work mistakes, poor concentration, and apathy, among others. If high levels of unwanted stress are not properly managed, your health and sense of wellbeing can suffer. Therefore, it is critical you learn how to manage stress effectively. A healthy diet, relaxation techniques, exercise, and appropriate supplementation can all assist – as can making sure you get a good night’s sleep every night.

You are probably already aware from experience that a lack of sleep makes you feel grumpy and foggy in the head. But what you probably don’t realise is that poor sleep has a number of other surprising and serious consequences. It can affect your sex life through reduced libido and energy; impair memory and concentration; put you at increased risk for health problems such as diabetes and high blood pressure; plus thwart your best efforts to lose weight.

Bottom line...ensure you learn how to chill out and get a good night’s sleep.
